Promoting digital skills: Brasseler hosts PopUp Campus of the Digital Business University

Lemgo, 06.04.2023

In cooperation with the DBU (Digital Business University of Applied Sciences), we at Gebr. Brasseler offer the opportunity to train as digital experts. Our sponsorship program supports selected employees to study part-time – virtually and in face-to-face events. From March 30 to April 01, we hosted the DBU PopUp Campus on “Leadership in the Digital Age” and welcomed students and companies from all over OWL to our headquarters in Lemgo. The PopUp Campus is part of the classroom events of the part-time, semi-virtual courses of study that we offer as part of our HR development scheme.

Further training of junior staff in digitization

Together with Brasseler and other companies from the Ostwestfalen-Lippe district, the DBU has adapted a study concept specifically for OWL. The aim is to provide employees with further training in those areas that are particularly promising for the future, including digital business management, data science and business analytics. The bachelor’s and master’s degree programs are hybrid in design: virtual courses are supplemented by monthly face-to-face events at the university in Berlin. Twice a year, a so-called PopUp Campus is also held at one of the partner companies in OWL, where all students can gain insights into the respective company, exchange experiences and discuss current topics. This social program is supported by PwC and the Pioneers Club.

Since October 2021, two of our employees have been attending the bachelor’s degree courses “Digital Business Management” and “Digital Marketing & Communication Management” on a part-time basis, now in their fourth semester. “Digital skills are crucial for a successful digital transformation,” says Björn Hartmann, Head of Human Resources. “As part of our continuing education program, we train junior employees in areas that cover their interests on the one hand and contribute to Brasseler’s value creation on the other. The flexible, semi-virtual learning environment of the degree programs provides the optimal setting for in-service training.”

PopUp Campus at Brasseler: “Leadership in the Digital Age”

On March 30, Stephan Köhler, spokesman for the management board, welcomed around 30 guests to the PopUp Campus at Brasseler. Participants were students and representatives of the companies GERRY WEBER International AG, Schüttflix, comspace, Volksbank Bielefeld-Gütersloh, KRONE Agriculture and BAG Bankaktiengesellschaft as well as Managing Director of DBU and PwC, Sebastian Holtze. During a tour of our company, the guests learned about Dentything, the intelligent merchandise management system for dentists, one of the latest products of our Komet brand. In a VR game, participants were also able to virtually assume the role of a dentist and perform dental treatment on a patient.

Human Resources Manager Björn Hartmann gave interesting insights into our modern leadership culture in his presentation “Leadership culture at Brasseler”. Andreas Kämmer, managing partner of comspace GmbH & KG, complemented the topic with impulses on Agile Leadership as well as New Work of the Bielefeld IT company. Both insights made clear how leadership works in the digital age and how much work is involved in the transformation of companies and corporate culture. At the concluding networking session, participants shared their experiences and perspectives from various industries and companies from OWL in a relaxed atmosphere.

“OWL is always worth a visit. Even more so when innovative educational concepts meet family-owned businesses and medium-sized companies,” says Sebastian Holtze. “Many thanks to Brasseler for letting us be your guests. The tour through the production, impulses on the topic of leadership in the digital age and the networking – it was entertaining and inspiring!”

The OWL network is a future-oriented project that promotes cooperation between companies and students and thus strengthens the link between theory and practice in relevant competencies – at Brasseler, this is an important component of the promotion of young talent.
